Bard:Live! Programs

Bard:Live! shows are theatrical theme concerts using songs, stories, and poems to form one unified program.  They feature songwriter and storyteller Rachel Nelson, and can be designed in collaboration with the group presenting the show.

As part of this design collaboration, Nelson offers to compose an original tune or song for each Bard:Live! performance venue.  Bard:Live! shows can be designed as one-woman shows or collaborations with other musicians and performers.

The BardLive concept grew out of Nelson's desire to  use all three of her oral arts - song, story, and poem - in live performance.  All of these oral art forms were part of the work of the old  bards. "My roots are in traditional music," Nelson explains.  "Bard:Live! is my way of saying that my freshest creative work falls within an arc that reaches back to the old traditional bards.  I stand within their tradition of live performance."

"Rachel sings from the heart . . . she is irresistible."

- Betsy Barnum, Great River Earth Institute
