This fall equinox, join a circle of drummers for an introductory workshop in the Tar (a Middle Eastern/North African frame drum played with bare hands.)

The weekend will combine a Layne Redmond-style introduction to the basic strokes and playing technique of the tar drum with experiential explorations of where each stroke resonates in your body.

Our learning and  “research” will be done in community, in the context of Nature’s New Year, the Fall Equinox.  During the weekend, the drumming will facilitate your turn from gratitude for the previous year’s cycle in your own life into welcoming in your New Year at this moment when Nature’s deepest seeds are planted in Earth’s yearly cycle.

Our drumming instruction method, which Rachel learned from Layne Redmond*, who learned it from Glen Velez, is a whole-brain technique that involves stepping the pulse, speaking the rhythms, and then playing them.  The drum circle will support you as you learn this complex set of skills.

You may borrow a drum for this introductory workshop—Rachel has 19 drums available for loan.  Or inquire about drum ordering options.  See below for lodging information (hotel, B&B, and camping available locally).
